McCain’s View of Latinos Echos Larger GOP Problem

McCain the bandito and latino problemMcCain is fooling himself if he thinks Republicans are going to win the Latino vote, specifically, the Mexican and Central American vote. Arizona has gone the way of California and the news has spread all over the Southwest of the angry racist rancor that reverberates from the Republican Right.

Pete Wilson back in the early 90s thought that prop 211 and 187 were winning issues for California Republicans. They were, those years. Problem? People like my girlfriend and I, who protested the propositions, grew up, and voted solidly Democrat.

As the Democrats lost the racist vote for passing civil rights to the GOP, the Republicans lost the Latino Vote in California for an entire generation and continue to lose and lose BADLY in California.

Arizona and the Southwest are no different. Growing Latino population, huge number of children, aging GOP voters who all support institutional racism. They can pander all they want, it will never mask the true face of the Republican Party.
